Born in El Salvador, Jose Medrano arrived in the DC area with his Honduran parents in the early 60’s at age 3. He lived there much of his life until relocating to Kent County in 2005. As an accountant for government agencies and private corporations, he used his business acumen to start his own company here, while giving back to the community, as a founding director of WIN-Women in Need and working with an after-school tutoring program. Jose was elected to the Chestertown Council in 2021 and is dedicated to “using his experience to help give back to the community and improving its well-being, to make it safer through law enforcement support and oversight, improving roads, supporting businesses, the working poor, and creating ways to increase local job availability for younger people.”
Jay Yerkes is a musician, painter, poet, sailor and a notable construction contractor, who has made his mark in his native Kent County the past 25 years, remodeling and building signature-styled homes and commercial properties, such as the Cerino Center at the Chestertown Marina. Kent Association of Riding Therapy KART was founded in 1984 to help children and adults with special needs enhance their social and developmental growth. KART uses a multi-faceted program involving therapeutic horseback riding, grooming and caring for the horse, and comprehensive classroom instruction.
